The short version
Where's the Party has no accounts and no ads, and doesn't sell or share data with advertisers. We don't track you across apps or sites.
Your location
Your phone uses your location to ask our server what is happening nearby. It sends only an approximate position (rounded to about 100 meters), which we use to answer and do not store. Our servers keep no request logs.
If you turn location off, the app shows downtown Louisville instead.
Check-ins
When you check in, we store only the general area (about a city block), never your exact spot, along with what you chose (packed / busy / dead, what’s going on) and your optional note.
Check-ins are anonymous. To stop spam, your phone sends a random ID that is not tied to you; our server keeps only a scrambled (hashed) version of it.
Check-ins are shown for 90 minutes and deleted after 24 hours. Nightly backups of our database can hold them for up to 14 more days before those backups are deleted too.
Notes can’t contain links, emails, phone numbers, slurs or threats. Anyone can report a note; notes reported by several people are removed.
Where the information comes from
Crowds and events come from public sources: ESPN game schedules, Ticketmaster, city event permits (Nashville, Chicago), public transit alerts, public bike- and scooter-share data, OpenStreetMap and Open-Meteo weather. None of these include anything about you.
“Busier than usual” compares public bike, scooter and bus activity in an area with what is normal for that hour. It counts vehicles, not people, and identifies no one.
Other services you might reach
The web map loads map images from OpenStreetMap, which sees your IP address like any website you visit. “Directions” opens your maps app, and “Details” opens the event’s page (for example Ticketmaster); those services have their own privacy policies.
Usage statistics
On the website we count visits and which features get used (for example “switched to Tonight” or “shared an event”) with Umami, which we host ourselves. It uses no cookies, does not track you across sites, and keeps no IP addresses; it records the page, browser type, device type and country. Shared-link details are never recorded, and if your browser sends “Do Not Track” nothing is counted at all.
If you’re outside our cities and tap “Bring it to my city”, we count a very rough area (about 50 km across) so we know where to expand. Nothing more precise.
On your device
The app stores the random check-in ID, the events you saved (they never leave your phone) and, on the website, whether you dismissed the “install” tip. Nothing else.
